For Ontario universities, English language requirements are outlined on an easy to read table as illustrated below.

UNIVERSITY ENGLISH OAC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS WHOSE FIRST LANGUAGE IS NOT ENGLISH EXCEPTIONS ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (NOTES)

LAURENTIAN

12U English or français required for all programs.

Minimum TOEFL score of 213 (CBT) or 550 (PBT) or 79 (iBT) or a minimum MELAB score of 85; or minimum IELTS of 6.5; or minimum CAEL of 60, with 60 in writing proficiency; or minimum Cambridge English proficiency of C; or equivalent evidence of English language proficiency.

A minimum of three years of full-time senior level studies in an English language secondary school or post-secondary institution. (Official documents required.)

If English language requirements are not met but academic background is acceptable, admission may be possible to the English Academic Prep. Course.

MCMASTER

12U English for all programs.

Minimum TOEFL score of 580 (PBT) or 237 (CBT or 86 (iBT) with a min. of 20 in each category; or 6.5 on IELTS; or 85 on MELAB; or 7.0 on CAEL. This is in addition to the English 12U requirement.

Resided more than four years in an English-speaking country immediately prior to attending McMaster or attended a Canadian or English medium secondary or post-secondary college educational institution full time for at least three years or attending an English university for 1 yr.

 

NIPISSING

12U English for all programs.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT), including a TWE score of 5, or 80 iBT (minimum 20 in each section); or minimum MELAB score of 90%; or minimum CAEL of 60; or IELTS with a minimum overall band score of 6.0 (with no band less than 6).

Three or more years on a full-time basis in an English speaking school system.

 

OCAD

12U English

(minimum 70%)

In addition to the grade 12U English requirement, a minimum score 80 (IBT) with no scores below 19 in Reading, 14 in Listening, 20 in Writing and 22 in Speaking or a minimum score of 580 (PBT) or 237 (CBT) on TOEFL (or equivalent) test is required.

Students whose first language is not English who have studied in the Canadian system for more than four years are not required to submit a TOEFL test in addition to the grade 12U English.
