Canadian University Applications

A student's decision about educational opportunities following secondary school can be one of the most difficult and traumatic experiences of an educational career. A student, whose personal goals are often unclear and who may lack experience and self confidence, is faced with high peer and parental expectations as well as with a society in which careers are changing at an incredible rate. A student is more likely to be satisfied and successful at university if he or she has considered more than the name and reputation of the institution. Research must also focus on the personality of the institution to determine how compatible the match will be. Dr. Peirce leads students through this research and will assist them determining a realistic and relevant list of institutions.

A number of relevant questions can help students focus on which institution makes sense for them.

  • Where is the institution located??
  • How many students are enrolled at the institution??
  • What is the typical class size??
  • What is the cost of the programme??
  • What facilities are available to the students??
  • What services are available to the student population??
  • What are the entrance requirements for the programme??
  • What percentage of students complete the programme??
  • What percentage of graduates find work related to the area of study completed??
  • What are the regulations regarding academic performance in the particular programme??
