American University Applications

Applications to American universities have much earlier deadlines than those to Canadian schools, usually in December or early January. Application forms and information requested tend to be much more extensive and detailed than their Canadian counterparts. Items like teacher references, counsellor comments, personal interviews, essays written by the student, and standardized testing all may be required. These demands necessitate a much earlier start and more organized approach to the application process for an American university.

As SAT I results tend to be an important factor in the student's application file, preparation is essential. There is a variety of preparation packages and courses available which have been shown to improve students' results. Being familiar with the style of testing can be a real asset to the examinee. A student also needs to be aware of any SAT II examinations which may be required by the institution being considered. Good scores in these examinations tend to make entrance to U.S. colleges more likely.
